Every gardener instinctively knows that puttering around with your plants can have a profoundly uplifting effect! The mental health benefits of gardening tend to be underestimated, but are definitely present.
Our gardens confer a special kind of serenity upon us which is often hard to come by in our frenetic, pressured world. It is only in recent years that doctors and mental health professionals have begun to truly delve into the healing potential of gardening.

Join the Book & Movie Club run by the year 4 parents
Like all book & movie clubs, this promises to offer a great way to discuss tough issues in a safe way—through characters and setting and plot and storyline that is tucked safely between covers.
Books aren’t a way to hide, though; instead, they’re a way to express. They humanise the broad concept of mental illness. Books and movie clubs spark open-ended questions and encourage exploration and discussion. Mental health books, both fiction and nonfiction, show what mental illness is like. They inspire hope of recovery. Participants naturally and comfortably share their own stories as they relate to the book. Support comes naturally through the books themselves.
Book directly through the Year 4 parent reps or the Time Out Team.
This week they’ll be sharing themes in best selling self-help book, Declutter Your Mind
Book synopsis
Feel overwhelmed by your thoughts? Struggling with anxiety about your daily tasks? Or do you want to stop worrying about life?
The truth is...We all experience the occasional negative thought. But if you always feel overwhelmed, then you need to closely examine how these thoughts are negatively impacting your lifestyle.
The solution is to practice specific mindfulness techniques that create more "space" in your mind to enjoy inner peace and happiness. With these habits, you'll have the clarity to prioritize what's most important in your life, what no longer serves your goals, and how you want to live on a daily basis. And that's what you'll learn in Declutter Your Mind
Join Year 5 mum, Janelle, for creative scrapbooking on Saturday mornings 10am – 11:30am in the Art room.

“One of the big psychological pluses associated with scrapbooking—in fact with any craft or hobby—is that it has the ability to transport you to a different place, away from routine concerns. According to psychologist Robert Reiner, PhD, “The act of performing a craft is incompatible with worry, anger, obsession, and anxiety. Crafts make you concentrate on the here and now and distract you from everyday pressures and problems,” he says. “They’re stress-busters in the same way that meditation, deep breathing, visual imagery, and watching fish are.”
